Heroes Weekend & Community Action Day

Church News -

We are planning our first ‘Heroes Weekend’ in May. The Saturday will be an Community Action Day where we support local groups and individuals in the community in practical and pastoral ways. On the Sunday we will hold a joint service with the theme of Celebration & Thanksgiving. Please put these dates in your diaries!

On Saturday 18th May we will meet at ABC at 9am for bacon butties and then head on our to practical projects across Andover and the surrounding communities, or, for those who aren’t physically able to get out and about, there will be ABC building based projects including:

  • packing Christmas shoeboxes for children in need in Andover (via the Foodbank) or children living in Serbia or Bulgaria (via the Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion FCSI).
  • Writing letters and cards of support to our overseas missionaries
  • Packing ‘bags of love’ for the ladies in the Andover Crisis and Support Centre (ABC’s Embrace ministry)
  • Writing letters to persecuted Christians living abroad (via Open Doors)
  • a prayer room which will pray for our local community and the agencies already supporting vulnerable and in need.

Please sign up to indicate which projects you would be interested in being part of so that we can plan teams. This can be done via this link https://www.andoverbaptist.org.uk/action-day or through Churchsuite, via our website, or with the HUB team after the Sunday services. Now is also the time we need some donations from you; particularly for the shoeboxes:

  • Shoeboxes
  • Christmas wrapping paper (yes Christmas paper)
  • gifts to go in the shoeboxes. If you want some more ideas about what is suitable to include then please pick up one of the leaflets from our HUB this week.

Ideally we need these before the day so please do bring them in from this Sunday and hand them in at the HUB.

I would like to offer some kind of practical help at this event. I am also very good at hand writing letters , but not sure what to put in them. Many thanks. God Bless!
